As an independent funeral celebrant, I can offer a variety of funeral ceremonies in a wide range of locations. My priority is that the location and ceremony is the best fit for you, your family and your friends. This maybe a funeral ceremony in a crematorium, a natural or woodland burial ground, a cemetery or at a private venue of your choosing.
If the funeral ceremony has already taken place, you may wish to now have a scattering of ashes ceremony or a memorial service as a way to a say a final goodbye to your loved one. This could be in a location which was special to you and the person who has died.
If you are aware that you have a life limiting condition, you may be considering a living funeral. This allows you the opportunity to say goodbye to the people who are important to you. My role would be to support you to develop the ceremony in an empathetic way which is at a pace which is always mindful of your current health needs.

Making contact: You maybe looking at the website as you have been given my details from a funeral director or you may have found my details via a website such as AOIC. Once you or a funeral director has made contact with me, I will contact you by telephone and we will have a brief discussion around when the funeral is planned and if there are any specific ideas of what you want from the funeral ceremony. You do not need to know at this stage as we will explore this in more detail when we meet.
Visiting you at home: During the initial telephone conversation I will arrange a date and time to visit you at home. The home visit is an opportunity for you to develop the funeral ceremony. I will ask questions about the person who has died and their life. We will explore what music, readings or poems you may wish to have as part of the ceremony. This can include both religious and non-religious music, readings, poems or prayers. The choice is yours. If you have a funeral director I will liaise with them around the plan for the funeral ceremony.
Review of ceremony: In advance of the funeral, I will send you a draft version of the funeral ceremony. This allows you the opportunity to check that you are happy with the content and structure of the service. A final version will be sent to the funeral director if you are using one at this stage.
Funeral ceremony: On the day of the ceremony, I will be responsible for leading the ceremony alongside the funeral directors if they are being used.
Following the funeral ceremony: Approximately two weeks after the ceremony, I will send you a final copy of the funeral ceremony script.

My Role as a Celebrant
For many people visiting the website it is likely to be a very difficult time in your life as you maybe anticipating a bereavement, have recently experienced the death of a loved one or you may be experiencing your own issues with poor health.
My role as a celebrant is to support and guide you through designing and providing a funeral ceremony which is as individual and special as the person the ceremony is for.
I am a qualified Independent Civil Funeral Celebrant, having completed the National Open College Network (NOCN) Diploma in Funeral Celebrancy. I am registered member of the Association of Independent Celebrants.
My Professional Background
I have extensive experience working in palliative care as a social worker in both children and adult hospice settings as well as working with children with life limiting conditions within a specialist hospital setting. I have provided emotional and practical support to patients and their families, supporting them to have those difficult conversations with loved ones around dying, helping patients to document their final wishes in relation to their funeral and working with them to develop memories such as letters to leave for their family.
I have been privileged to have had the opportunity to support families following the death of both children and adults, having run a child bereavement group and provided 1:1 emotional support to families, allowing them the time and space they need to explore their feelings of grief in a safe and supportive way.
My work with children, has included helping them to draw pictures and write letters to share at funerals and develop memory boxes, memory jars and story boards. This experience is of great value when working as a celebrant as I feel confident in exploring with families how they may wish to involve children in funeral ceremonies.
I have for a number of years also worked as a social work lecturer. This has helped me within my role as a celebrant in particular feeling confident in speaking to large groups of people, being mindful of making every person in the room feel engaged, as well as writing content for a diverse audience.
I work across Surrey and London. The main boroughs I cover are Epsom and Ewell, Elmbridge, Reigate and Banstead, Mole Valley, Guildford, Sutton and Kingston Upon Thames.
